Advocare Founder and Director, Amy Seigel, has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Miami, and over 25 years of experience assisting patients in achieving their optimum level of health and quality of life. Prior to forming Advocare in 2001 she was Director of Patient Services for a major hospital group. She holds national board certifications as a Certified Medical Case Manager (CCM) and Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN). Her background includes geriatric medicine, neurology, stroke recovery, ortho / rehab, and traumatic head & brain injury. Amy serves on the Education and Public Relations Committees for the National and Florida Association of Geriatric Care Managers. She is an active member of The Elder Service Resource Network, Coalition on Aging, Case Management Society of America, and National Association of Rehabilitation Nurses. Amy has served on a national committee for Sacred Aging, and is involved in several organizations that support and promote services for the elderly. Amy is an adjunct lecturer on elder care issues at Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, and their Institute for Learning in Retirement. Amy is considered an authority on the care management industry. She has served as an advisor on America’s Health Care Crisis Coalition to represent the needs of seniors in national health care policy. She has served as a lecturer on senior issues for Alzheimer’s Association and Hadassah and has led trainings for other Care Managers with the Florida Geriatric Care Management Association. She was recently interviewed and featured on SmartMoney.com.
Amy was proudly recognized by her peers in the South Florida Case Management Society as “Case Manager of the Year.” Click here to read the full press release. Amy was also proudly selected in 2010 to serve on the Board of Directors of the Florida Geriatric Care Managers Association.
Advocare’s Director of Operations, Marty Seigel, received his BS in Finance from University of Florida, and his Masters in International Business from University of South Carolina. Marty’s management background includes diverse roles in sales, marketing, and financial management for several large companies in both domestic and international roles. Marty’s career includes progressive management positions with Sony Electronics, and was one of their first sales executives to be certified in the Six Sigma quality program. Marty is a Certified Senior Advisor and long term care insurance specialist. In addition to heading up Advocare’s South Florida Provider Network, he is our in-house technology guru. He is passionate about the mission of Advocare and proud to be making a difference in the lives of Advocare clients.
Advocare’s Director of Life Care Planning Jill Poser holds a Bachelor of Arts from SUNY New York, and works with families on non-medical issues. As a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), she has unique skills to help families continue to live safely in their own home. Jill is an expert in assisting with simple solutions for a safe environment and helping seniors remain independent. As the “ultimate communicator,” Jill is able to counsel families to work through the complicated issues faced as loved ones get older. Another very special role is helping families who are considering a transition from their own homes to a senior living community – Independent Living, Assisted Living, or Skilled Nursing. If a move is decided upon, Jill coordinates the entire process: identifying the optimal community, enlisting other professionals as necessary to organize the entire transition process, de-clutter the household, and seamlessly make the move. Jill is active in local philanthropy to support seniors and proudly serves on the Board of Directors at the FAU Memory and Wellness Center in Boca Raton.
Our Boca Raton | Boynton Beach | Delray Beach Geriatric Care Manager Jay obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from CUNY with an additional advanced certification as a Nurse Practitioner. Prior to joining Advocare, Jay had over twenty-five years experience as a community health RN and Case Manager at Mount Sinai Medical Center and the Jewish Home and Hospital for the Aged in New York. His experience also includes Mental Health, Med-Surgical, and Long-Term Care, where he has focused on clinical and emotional support to patients and their families. Jay has embraced his role as a private Care Manager with Advocare with great passion and enthusiasm and has earned praise and appreciation from his clients and their families.
Our Delray Beach / Boynton Beach Geriatric Care Manager Donna obtained her degree in Nursing from Staten Island University in New York. She is a seasoned Nurse Case Manager with over twenty years of progressive experience. Donna served as a Case Manager and Discharge Planner for Cleveland Clinic Florida. She subsequently worked in multiple inpatient and outpatient settings where she gained significant direct experience in in assessing health care necessities, developing care plans, and finding the appropriate resources and treatments for her clients. Donna is a Board Certified Case Manager (CCM) and a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN). Donna was primary caregiver for her elder mother and father providing additional sensitivity and insight to her role as an advocate for our families.
Our N. Broward / Boca Raton / Palm Beach Care Manager Linda is a Certified Nurse Case Manager (CCM) with a wealth of experience assisting seniors. Linda’s experience includes working as both Nurse Case Manager and Director of skilled nursing facilities in New York and Florida. Linda attributes her keen ability to relate to senior clients and help them navigate the health care system to her 20-plus years of practical experience in the ER, hospitals, home health, rehabilitation facilities, and nursing homes. Linda is an unwavering patient advocate, whether resolving insurance matters, assisting families to find affordable solutions to their issues, or serving as liaison between doctor and patient. Prior to joining Advocare Linda was a Nurse Case Manager with Whitehall Boca Raton.
Our Palm Beach Geriatric Care Manager Helen has years of practical experience as a Registered Nurse and as an advocate for her patients. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Helen calls herself a “total patient advocate, with a “tender spot” for seniors being the passion in her life and her impetus for seeking a career in geriatric care management. One of her long term patients told us that he would not be here today if not for her and that he “could not find the right words to describe her empathy and caring heart.” Helen has a broad knowledge of services and entitlements for seniors, in addition to her clinical skills as a nurse.
Our Jupiter / North Palm Beach Island Care Manager Susie graduated Summa cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL and has worked as a Registered Nurse in Palm Beach County for the past 15 years. Prior to joining Advocare she worked with Bethesda Memorial as a Nurse Case Manager, coordinating care with patients, home health agencies, primary care physicians, and specialty consulting physicians. Her previous experience includes both home health care and hospice care. Susie has a wonderful sense of humor and loves making a difference in the lives of our clients with her outstanding skills in care coordination.
Our West Broward / Pembroke Pines Geriatric Care Manager Jennifer obtained her nursing degree from Humber College in Ontario, and has 15 years of experience as a primary care Registered Nurse in Florida & Canada. Her areas of specialty include geriatrics, gynecology, and discharge planning. Her sincere, personable, and professional manner is appreciated by Advocare clients. Jennifer recently proved her commitment to go above and beyond the call of duty for her clients when she ensured the safety and well being of a senior couple by accompanying them to California in order to attend a family life event. Jennifer is currently working towards her candidacy for certification as a Care Manager Certified (CMC).
Our Fort Lauderdale Geriatric Care Manager Gregg obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Bucknell University in Pennsylvania and has earned the certification as a Case Management Specialist. Gregg is an accomplished social work professional whose career spans over fifteen years assisting seniors in Broward County. He has an extensive network of community resources and is adept in assisting families to navigate the health care options in both acute and custodial care settings. His knowledge spans Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance. Gregg is very adept at determining the psycho-social needs of our clients and implementing adaptive measures. Gregg is our placement specialist, assisting families to make appropriate local and out-of-state transitions in senior living arrangements. Our Plantation | Hollywood | North Miami Geriatric Care Manager Christina has a degree in Nursing from Broward College, and has advanced credentials as a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN). Her nursing experience includes certification as an ER/trauma nurse, cardiology, orthopedics, stroke, and nephrology, and for the past 15 years has focused this experience as a case manager and a geriatric nurse advocate. Christina and Amy worked hand in hand as field case managers many years ago, and today Amy is proud to have Christina as part of her nurse care management team. Christina is completely bilingual in Spanish and English, and loves her work at Advocare, stating, “We know which doctors we would choose for our own family and how we would have them treated – we just do the same for our own clients.”
Our Aventura | Hallandale | Hollywood Geriatric Care Manager Marylynne attended Newark Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing and received her Nursing degree from Broward College. Marylynne’s experience in the home health industry includes positions as Nursing Supervisor, Nurse Educator, and Director of Clinical Services. She has served on the Advisory Board and currently serves as Adjunct Faculty at Key College Health Sciences Department. Marylynne’s excellent communication skills, combined with her extensive nursing background, make her a very effective Care Advocate on behalf of Advocare clients.
Our West Broward South Florida Care Manager, Debi has a Bachelor of Arts in Gerontology and Business Administration, with a concentration in Long Term Care Administration from Kent State University in Ohio and is a Certified Gerontological Specialist. Prior to working with Advocare, Debi served as an Administrator for an assisted living facility in South Florida and prior to that as a licensed nursing home administrator for a skilled nursing facility in Baltimore. Debi assists our senior clients with all of their administrative and organization needs, including insurance reconciliations, bill payments, and review of hospital and provider invoices. Many times Debi works collaboratively with other members of the Advocare team. Debi assists clients with bookkeeping, coordinating community activities, and appointments. Our clients always look forward to Debi’s warm personality and upbeat assistance with managing their administrative affairs.
Our Coral Springs Care Manager, Beryl holds a Bachelor‘s degree in Psychology from SUNY Binghamton, and a Master’s Degree in Gerontological Studies from Miami University. She works with families on non-medical issues, and assists individuals in retaining their independence and remaining in the safest living environment possible. She is a true advocate for the elderly and special needs individuals, and her passion is to assist those experiencing vulnerabilities in their lives. While employed as a Long Term Care Ombudsman in Ohio, she co-authored a consumer bill of rights for Home Care and Community based waiver consumers. She has extensive experience in the field of Care Management, having overseen the Broward Unit of the Channeling Program which assisted elders in obtaining services necessary for them to remain living at home. During this time she supervised both case managers and nurses.
Beryl also provides support for those needing to make a change in their living situation. If a move to an Independent Living Facility, Assisted Living Facility or Skilled Nursing is needed, she can provide the support and coordination to oversee the process, thereby relieving families of navigating the maze of available services.
Our “Active Aging’ Program Manager Penny spearheads our senior fitness and wellness program. Penny received her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Miami School of Medicine, and her Bachelor of Science degree from American University in Washington DC. Her experience includes evaluating and determining effective treatment plans to counter the effects of aging. Her work spans the realm of physical, sociological, and psychological aspects of working with clients.
